If you move your mouse slowly over the images then this menu will look similar to the menu in the left frame (if viewed in IE5+, NS6+). However, if you move your mouse quickly over the images you will see that using JavaScript to animate each frame makes the animation a lot smoother. As you can control the state of the animation you can ensure that the image fully turns on before it turns off. This is required if the mouse moves out of the image before the animation has finished. Also, as we are using JavaScript to animate the image it means it will work in IE4+ and NS4+, NS6+.
